welcome back to the weekly {five} — a little something to end your weekend (or start the week) & stay in the loop for all things five o’clock fridays!
fully unsolicited thought (as if this whole thing isn’t essentially a series of my unsolicited thoughts 👀🤷🏾♀️) but after seeing this:
i personally think we need to start rebranding everything that we’re not here for.
example 1: essentially every American holiday. like thankful for a day off tomorrow (rip to those who don’t get one, sending prayers 🙏🏾) but truly gag at celebrating Washington’s birthday and DEEP gag at the alternative option 👀.
1. funny feature — a little something that made me literally LOL this week
why does nothing restore faith in humanity like an unsolicited hype woman? 🏀

2. a lil city slice — a potentially off the beaten path nyc rec
meili — new kid on the block, williamsburg 🥢🥠
located inside of coda hotel, meili offers sichuan style food in an beautifully designed space. opened earlier this month, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.
it joins a few other sichuan restaurants in the neighborhood — namely antidote and birds of a feather — & seems to be holding it’s own against tough competition.
as a reality show drama loving gal, i will say the context behind the neighborhood beef does make me want to determine for myself who the real winner is 👀
3. two cents — a quick question or two for you
shared hot takes during the palentine’s dinner (& a work onsite), which one is the hottest?
(option 4: where you’re from is where you went through puberty)
4. & now you know — highlighting the girls, gays, and theys (or topics) that we all should know about
Bad With Money by Gabe Dunn — because 10/10 financial literacy is always the goal 💰
“You won't get rich, but you will feel seen. Gabe, a queer and trans writer and New York Times best-selling author, and their expert guests take down out-of-touch money movies, TV, and books, listen to your personal financial wins and woes, try to better the world for the not-billionaires, and laugh because they just can't cry about this shit anymore.”
i simply can’t be the only one who constantly has a goal of becoming more financially literate but simultaneously feels overwhelmed with all of the nuances and minutia that one can get lost in.
through my consistent efforts to get deeper i have learned that finding people that i resonate with/relate to to learn from has done wonders vs. just learning from “financial experts”.
as a podcast gal (listening to podcasts at the gym »»» listening to music ~70% of the time), Bad Money is an accessible way to keep financial topics top of mind without feeling deeply overwhelmed.
5. up and coming — what’s going on for five o’clock fridays in the coming weeks
it’s always shocking how jan is 10 years and feb is 10 seconds so shook that this month is already halfway over.
this was definitely a light month re: events but will be picking up again next month starting with interest forms (with specific dates!!) in next week’s weekly five.
reminder, ways to get earlier access to events:
upgrading to the paid substack (only $5/month (!!) & helps for planning events)
attending at least 2 events in the previous 2 months (we love consistency 💃✨)
any cancellations for sold out events will be shared first via instagram so follow there to stay in the loop!
friendly reminder that costs always directly cover the event (eg. renting out space, securing a res, towards your meal) or go towards tip!
up & coming1:
pasta making + dinner @ aunt jake’s 🍝 — saturday, february 22nd @ 6:30 pm (tickets here)
cost includes pasta making class & 3 course dinner 👀
if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, fun stories — please share!
xx
