welcome back to the weekly {five} — a little something to end your weekend (or start the week) & stay in the loop for all things five o’clock fridays!
given this is the last weekend in feb, i essentially feel like spring is 2 seconds away &, with that thought process, i randomly wondered what the groundhog said.
while i think it’s insane that such a thing exists (i know i can google the history but also literally why), i think it’s more insane that the following is true:
groundhog day is Feb 2nd which simply feels too early
there’s an actual groundhog day celebration in pennsylvania
the groundhog in question is named Punxsutawney Phil and is quite literally snatched from his winter slumber which just feels deeply rude?
tldr; phil said we have more winter coming our way so take that to mean what you will
1. funny feature — a little something that made me literally LOL this week
the way it’s literally one of my goals to get stopped by this man is at least slightly delulu 👀🤪

2. a lil city slice — a potentially off the beaten path nyc rec
schmuck — a house party meets cocktail bar, east village 🍸🛋️
at this point in my life, the only nights out you’re getting from me involve a cocktail bar and being home by midnight & this spot immediately shot to the top of my list.
a newly opened sister bar to the number 7 bar in the world (who is evaluating these things and how do i get on that list 👀), schmuck provides a dual experience of the living room and the kitchen table.
the living room gives funky and cozy vibes while the kitchen table is more vibrant and straightforward — each space has it’s own unique decor and curated menu, meant to recreate the progression of a house party where you move throughout the space as the night evolves (in a world where we all didn’t live in shoeboxes 🤷🏾♀️).
they have definitely been getting their fair share of attention so plan accordingly but worth a visit! 👀
3. two cents — a quick question or two for you
i’ve asked this before but there's more of us now and this will change over time sooooo
4. & now you know — highlighting the girls, gays, and theys (or topics) that we all should know about
i’m obviously preaching to the choir when i say representation matters but sometimes i feel that representation that embodies the nuances of human nature (vs. stereotypes) is often lost in the pursuit of representation for the sake of representation.
that being said, this stack shares a number of shows and movies that specifically exemplify what representation without barriers or boxes should look like.
next time you’re looking for new content to add to your watch list — would recommend giving these a try!
5. up and coming — what’s going on for five o’clock fridays in the coming weeks
lots of things in the works for march (!!) but a few require $$$ up front (aka my first gen nightmare), in the vein of minimizing my consistently high stress levels please submit your interest for the following whether you can/want to attend or not:
shuffleboard & drinks @ royal palms — friday, march 14th @ 8 pm ($15)
cost goes towards a drink ticket & reserved courts 💃
interest in this could lead to an ongoing royal palms🤝FOF partnership 👀
candle making class — sunday, march 23rd @ 1 pm ($75)
location: 5 min walk from Morgan Ave stop on the L
friend speed dating + drinks/snacks — wednesday, march 26 @ 7 pm ($25)
location: 10 min walk from Jefferson stop on the L
there are other things planned not in bk so do not fret 👀
reminder, ways to get earlier access to events:
upgrading to the paid substack (only $5/month (!!) & helps for planning events)
attending at least 2 events in the previous 2 months (we love consistency 💃✨)
any cancellations for sold out events will be shared first via instagram so follow there to stay in the loop!
friendly reminder that costs always directly cover the event (eg. renting out space, securing a res, towards your meal) or go towards tip!
