weekly {five} - oct. 20
a month and a half later & here we are
welcome back to the weekly {five} — a little something to end your weekend (or start your week) & stay in the loop for all things five o’clock fridays!
truly shocked that it’s been 6 weeks of doing this but here’s a few things i’ve learned so far:
some of ya’ll are more here to be invited vs. actually coming to events (🫣) — & hey, i love that for you! i hope that you make moves and come through but, even if you don’t, you’ll still be invited 🫶🏾
everyone who has come to events is SO nice — it’s shocking how easy it is to find common ground with complete strangers like who would’ve thought 🤔
sometimes taking the simple route is entirely okay — as someone who likes to have everything orchestrated down to the smallest details, organizing these events has been a great reminder that not everything has to be overly complicated 🤷🏾♀️
anyways, if number one made you feel some type of way 👀, come to trivia or a happy hour (details below)!
1. funny feature — a little something that made me literally LOL this week
i love a leader whose got jokes — but also your friendly reminder the deadline to register to vote in NYC is october 26th 👀
2. a lil city slice — a potentially off the beaten path nyc rec
ferns — my go to last minute dinner spot, east village
if there’s one thing about me, it’s that i love a detailed plan — and making a reservation is usually step 1 of making the plan.
logically it follows, that something about last minute dinner plans causes me a level of stress that i can acknowledge is deeply unreasonable (because it literally is not that serious)
that being said — ferns is my go to last minute casual dinner spot. it’s in a good location, regardless of what your next plans are, the food is really good (big fan of their artichoke dip) and, most importantly, i’ve never struggled to get a reservation.
3. two cents — a quick question or two for you
what does the holiday season look like for you?
another one: i’m trying to think of more weekend events. what are our thoughts on more involved events? for example, brunch and going to the grand bazaar? or a chinatown food crawl?
4. & now you know — highlighting the girls, gays, and theys that we all should know about
Leigh Finke — the first openly transgender member of the Minnesota legislature
“It’s hard to be what you cannot see. I take this responsibility very seriously because I know young trans people are watching. Abortion is a trans issue, trans rights is a women’s issue. We are all in the same fight to protect our basic human rights”
5. up and coming — what’s going on for five o’clock fridays in the coming weeks
trust & believe, actual valuable contribution to trivia expectations could not be lower — i personally suck at trivia 🤷🏾♀️ — so just come and hang!
up & coming:
trivia night — wednesday, october 23rd @ 7 pm (ticket link here)
non-halloween (but on halloween) happy hour — thursday, october 31st @ 6:45 pm (ticket link here)
if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, fun stories — please share!
